netBook vs. netBook Pro

Connectivity
LAN

For those of you that thought PsiWin was bad. Wait and play with this Pro. I have tried the following "wired" PCMCIA NIC cards without success: IBM Ethernet II, 3Com Megahertz (3CCE589ET), 3Com Megahertz (3CCFE574BT),  3Com    Megahertz (3CXFE575BT), Xircom CreditCard Ethernet+Modem Global Access (CEM33). Even with the latest CE drivers.

Again spending time on the phone with helpdesks (including PT's) no solutions for either the (according to PT supported) Avaya Silver WIFI card or the Linksys WPC11 (ver. 2.5 & ver.3) with the latest CE drivers. Therefore I have not been able to get connected to either my network email or the internet.

COM Port

Connecting with the serial cable worked after a lot of trial and error. You can not, CAN NOT use any other Psion cable, the pin-outs are different. Again working with the PT helpdesk I finally got my laptop to connect using the latest version of ActiveSync. Here is the trick, timing is everything. You have to connect your Pro. Start ActiveSync on the PC. Go to Start, Programs, ActiveSync, Direct on the Pro. It is crucial to start it a couple of times to see the timing. The PC version of ActiveSync will start to scan all ports available for the Psion to connect. The issue is that as soon as you start ActiveSync on the Pro it will only send a handshake for exactly 5 seconds. Therefore if the PC is scanning the ports you have to make sure that in the when it is scanning the right COM port that you are in your 5 seconds handshake from the Pro otherwise it will not connect! I have the most success when I have both machines ready to connect, use both hands, start the PC with one hand and within 1 second start the Pro with the other hand.
